“대제사장들과 유대인 중 높은 사람들이 바울을 고소할쌔, 베스도의 호의로 바울을 예루살렘으로 옮겨 보내기를 청하니 이는 길에 매복하였다가 그를 죽이고자 함이러라” (행 25: 2-3).
유대인들이 그를 죽일 음모를 꾸미나 이루지 못합니다. 사도 바울은 성령의 지시로 이미 자신이 로마로 가게 될 것을 알고 있었기에 (23: 11) 두려움 없이 황제에게 재판 받기를 요청합니다. 로마 시민권을 가진 그는 로마 제국의 법에 따라 보호를 받으며 로마로 가게 됩니다. 사명자는 그의 사명 다하기까지 죽지 않으며, 악한 자의 궤계는 이루지 못합니다.
“주님, 감사합니다. ‘담대하라 네가 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증거한 것같이 로마에서도 증거하여야 하리라’ (23: 11). 성령의 지시를 받은 사도 바울은 담대하였습니다. 오늘도 저희 주의 뜻을 알아 담대하게 복음 전하게 하옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.”
“The chief priests and the leading Jews brought charges against Paul. They asked Festus to send Paul to Jerusalem, because they were planning to ambush him on the way and kill him” (Acts 25:2–3).
The Jews made a plan to kill Paul, but they could not carry it out. Paul already knew, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that he would go to Rome (23:11). So he boldly asked to stand trial before Caesar. As a Roman citizen, he was protected by Roman law and was sent to Rome. A person with a God-given mission will not die until that mission is completed, and the schemes of the wicked cannot succeed.
“Lord, thank You. ‘Take courage! As you have testified about Me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome’ (23:11). Paul was bold because he followed the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Help us today to know Your will and to share the gospel with courage. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
