“보라 하늘이 열리고 인자가 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보노라”(행 7: 56).
겁없이 담대히 예수를 증거했던 스데반, 마침내 그의 설교를 듣고 양심에 가책을 받은 군중들에 의해 돌에 맞아 죽습니다. 그는 하늘이 열리고 주께서 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보며 기꺼이 최초의 순교자가 됩니다. 그의 용기와 담대함은 어디서 왔습니까? 성령의 역사입니다. 예수의 영 성령은 우리에게 예수를 알게 하시고, 믿게 하시고, 증거하도록 도우십니다.
“주님, 성령의 놀라운 역사로 초대교회 성도들이 힘있게 주의 부활을 증거했습니다. 성령께서 우리의 영원한 구주 예수 그리스도를 알게 하시고, 믿게 하시고, 증거하도록 도와 주시니 감사합니다. 성령이시여, 연약한 저희를 힘있게 도우소서. 주님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.”
“Look, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” (Acts 7:56)
Stephen boldly and fearlessly testified about Jesus, and in the end, he was stoned to death by the crowd whose consciences were pierced by his message. As he saw heaven opened and the Lord standing at the right hand of God, he willingly became the first martyr of the church.Where did such courage and boldness come from? It was the work of the Holy Spirit.The Holy Spirit—the Spirit of Jesus—helps us to know Him, to believe in Him, and to bear witness to Him.
“Lord, through the marvelous work of the Holy Spirit, the believers of the early church powerfully testified to Your resurrection. We thank You that the Holy Spirit enables us to know, believe in, and witness to our eternal Savior, Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, strengthen us in our weakness. We pray in the name of the Lord. Amen.”
