AD 59년 한 겨울 276명을 태운 알렉산드리아 상선은 지중해 한 가운데서 거센 폭풍을 만났습니다. 짐과 배의 기구들을 바다에 버리고 14일 음식도 먹지 못하고 버텼으나 방도가 없었습니다. 로마 백부장도 선장도 손을 놓은 절체절명의 위기 속에서 미결수 사도 바울이 분연히 일어서서 그들을 안심시킵니다. 하나님의 말씀을 믿었기 때문입니다.
“주님, 저희도 지금 극변하는 국내와 국제 정치 속에서 위기를 만났습니다. 풍랑을 만났습니다. 두렵습니다. 바울에게 말씀과 용기를 주셨듯, 저희에게도 이 시대에 꼭 필요한 소망의 말씀을 주시고 믿음 흔들리지 않게 하옵소서. .주님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.”

In the winter of AD 59, an Alexandrian grain ship carrying 276 people was caught in a violent storm in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. They threw the cargo and even the ship’s equipment overboard, and for fourteen days they could not eat, nor did they see any way of escape. In this life threatening moment—when even the Roman centurion and the captain had given up—Paul, still a prisoner awaiting trial, rose to his feet and encouraged them. He did so because he trusted the word God had spoken to him.
“Lord, we too find ourselves in a time of great upheaval, facing storms in both our nation and the world. We are afraid. As You gave Paul Your word and courage, grant us also the word of hope we need in this age, and keep our faith from wavering. We pray in the name of the Lord. Amen.”
